The critical work entitled "Le Sixieme Sens des Symboles" is a symbolic analysis of Le Roi des Aulnes written by Michel Tournier. In this interpretation, the Star of David is used to symbolize the entire book. The Star of David incarnates all the elements of the universe: fire, water, dry, moist, cold and heat. Through a close examination of the contents of each chapter, a symbolic identity appears which correlates to one of the six elements on the Star of David. For it is the premise of this thesis that the symbols illuminate hidden meanings that Tournier disguises with skill beneath provoking vocabulary and startling compilation of images. The purpose of this thesis is to show through the incarnation of all the elements of the universe that there exists the catastrophic potential for war and horrors such as the Holocaust and the idea that every man possesses the propensity for evil, as demonstrated by Abel Tiffauges.
