Kierkegaard's Way to America: A Study in the Dissemination of His Thought

Since this study aims to synthesize rather than analyze the channels through which Kierkegarardian thought has penetrated the broad stream of American intellectual history there has had to be an arbitrary point for outing short detailed discussion within each specialized field. To have carried the progress of exploration further would have resulted in prolific detail which would clutter the pattern of the narrative and overshadow the main purpose of the study: this would have turned an interpretative historical treatment into little more than an unselective sourcebook of undigested data.
