JENNA is an original novel about the friendship between Josh Parker, a mathematically inclined young man growing up in a healthy, supportive home in Hannibal, Missouri, and Jenna Erwin, the neighborhood baby sitter he's always had a crush on. She is devoted to poetry and soccer, has a troubled family relationship and feels unusually comfortable around Josh at the time they become close friends, in the early 1980's. They develop a safe place to connect at the old elm tree that stands in the park, about halfway between home and school. Once Josh realizes that something major is bothering her, he tries to get her to talk to him, but when she wont, he at least gets her to confide in a trusted adult. This sets Jenna's future in motion, which takes her away from Josh. Eventually, they find their way back to each other.
