This thesis examines the development of Japanese corporate philanthropy in the United States from its emergence in the late 1960s to the present. Its purpose is to define the history of Japanese corporate giving to the arts in the United States in order to anticipate the role of American arts organizations in Japanese corporate giving at both the national and local levels in the 1990s.
