Instructions for the Days Following
Without other people, some part of each one of us lives begging the question of reality and our place in it. How do we know if we, our thoughts and actions, or our beliefs are real if there is no other person, thought, action, or belief to define ourselves against? Human interaction is complicated, often coarse, frequently mystifying and rarely painless, and this struggle is what many of my characters are grappling with on a subconscious level. On a conscious level, Instructions for the Days Following is about recognizing things for what they are, for what they were, and for what they might be. Whether it is seeing a canary in a young boy or both absence and renewal of love through a cat, Instructions searches the details of the human imagination to create a diverse catalog of characters that are taken not from life itself, but from its exploration.
