This story collection contains seven stories that explore community, friendship, history, mythology, and the complexities of society and human nature. Many of the stories involve an element of the fantastical, some leaning into different worlds entirely, to explores these themes. The collection begins an experimental historical fiction piece, based on real people and some true events, specifically Dr. James Marion Sims, who is considered the father of gynecology, who experimented on enslaved women. but it’s unknown what happened to Lucy and Anarcha after the experiments ended. The collection starts with stories set in the real world, before moving onto more experimental stories involving an element of the fantastical, to create an unsettling effect.
