ISLA BELLA: A COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES
Isla Bella: A Collection of Short Stories is an original collection of short stories which traces generations of young women and men as they come of age in Isla Bella, one of three satellite islands in the Caribbean Sea, located near the coast of its South American parent-nation. This project utilizes the post-colonial setting to explore generational divides and family secrets as the island develops and decays, both through the creation of a tourist economy and the power of natural disasters. Themes featured in this thesis include the search for identity and place, as well as the question of free-will and the inevitable fallout originating from choice. The work is a foray into the world of Young Adult literature and the genre of magical realism.
