Historical Review of Education for Girls in Japan

Today, a twenty-nine hour flight from our West Coast cities brings us to our back-door neighbor, Japan. It seems unbelievable that for the first century of our history, United States ignored this neighbor completely. We studied European languages, history and culture; some of us visited Europe, and most of us traced our ancestry to Europe. We were not at all interested in Japan.Rather than being disturbed by our oversight, Japan abetted this policy.
