Historical Classification of Art Material in Washington, D.C.: According to the Course of Study for Art (History And) Appreciation in the High Schools of the District of Columbia

The purpose of the following historical classification of art material in Washington is to facilitate the work of the art teacher in teaching art history and art appreciation to high school students. Although the course of study for art in the junior and senior high schools of the District of Columbia includes many phases of art work, the section entitled Art History and Art Appreciation is especially important. The course of study in art appreciation and art history in use in the Washington high schools has for its general aim an understanding and appreciation of the contribution of art to civilization.
