Grow Up

thesis
posted on 2025-06-24, 19:55 authored by Hannah Singletary

My memoir, entitled Grow Up, follows my troubled relationships with my family, specifically with my mother. The following chapters detail how my relationship with her affected me in my college relationships and well into adulthood. I also detail my mother’s background to further display we are products of our environment. In my own environment, I can be an active contributor to the turmoil. Most of the time, however, I am a bystander in my own life, struggling to react to the situations and the chaos around me. Within the memoir, I wrestle with the question of whether one can truly maintain a toxic relationship with a loved one no matter how dysfunctional. We are all living life for the first time, including my mother.
