“Ground Zeroes” is a collected work of original stories that examines the ripple effects of terrorism on communities. The six short fiction pieces examine the feelings and relationships that tie together perpetrators, victims, and bystanders. “Ground Zeroes” also takes a critical look at the technology we use in the wake of tragedy, from the spread of false information in exchange for views (as in “Yankee Stadium Conspiracy Theories…”) to the unfilterable stream of violent content and its possible effects on young viewers (as in “Daily News”). Bookended by nonfiction that weaves research with the author’s own experiences, “Ground Zeroes” ultimately reveals how world-wide disasters inevitably become intensely personal.
