Greenhouse Insects: A Research into their Biology and Control under Maryland Conditions

The continuous warmth, relatively moist conditions, and concentration of favored food plants in greenhouses make optimum conditions for insect multiplication and consequent depredation. Some insects are present in varying members in all greenhouses, frequently overlooked or their importance discounted by the grower. The losses due to insects affecting greenhouse crops are frequently so insidious that a true monetary estimate of them is difficult. The injury done by destruction of seedlings, necessitating replanting and the reduction in plant vitality resulting in poor crops must include in the estimate.
