Floodplain is a collection of poems. These poems, told in varying voice and form, seek to create a landscape of Texas and the South through the motif of storm. This storm is at times literal, and at times serves as a vessel for finding meaning in death, grief, birth and family history. Often mythical, these poems both question and find conviction in the God who creates the storm. This element of the supernatural is contrasted with an obsession for the scientific. The floodplain is the place of human suffering, but the sludge is the result of something omnipotent, the flood, which reminds us of the marvel in this world.
