The people in this collection of stories walk along life's metaphorical tightrope and attempt to maintain a balance, not solely in their everyday lives but with what is most important to them: their relationships. To loose firm footing takes one uncertain step, one bad choice or an unforeseen gust of fate. These stories delve into the lives of characters struggling and fighting to maintain (or reclaim) equilibrium. The balancing act may come from a middle-aged architect unable to connect with his family. It may come from an actor's inability to formulate a response to his wife's pregnancy. Potential disaster may take the form of a schizophrenic student trying to hide his illness from his father. These stories, much like an intricate Rube Goldberg, employ a series of cause-and-effect tinkerings--both tragic and comic--which lards together a full-range of human sensibilities.
