Economics of Helicopter Operation in Scheduled Local Air Service

In the past few years it has become increasingly evident that the 13 American local service or "feeder" air carriers must secure a type of aircraft better suited to their needs than the ... DC-3 two-engined fixed-wing aircraft. Many members of the industry believe that transport-type helicopters, capable of arrival and departure from points located close to metropolitan centers, would enable the carriers to offer faster and more attractive short-haul air service than is now possible with the DC-3.
