In the following pages an attempt will be made to show the economic importance of the natural responses of the Quinaielt Indian Reservation and their relative importance to the industrial life of Grays Harbor County, Washington. The Quinaielt is a treaty reservation of nearly 200,000 acres which was set aside in 1855 for the use of the Qainaielt Tribes of Indians. It lies almost wholly within the borders of Grays Harbor County along the Pacific Ocean in the west central part of the State of Washington. There apparently is very little literature on the subject herein treated and the writer has found it convenient to make use of information he obtained while in Gray Harbor County in 1927, and on the Quinaielt Indian Reservation with his official duties as Forest Examiner in the Forestry Branch of the U.S. Indian Service. Official records of the Indian Service and other governmental bureaus have been received for the statistical data used herein.
