Determination of Learning Background for Eighth Grade Social Studies, with Special Reference to Jefferson School, Alexandria, Virginia

AND PURPOSEModern education seeks to teach the whole child. The phenomenal growth and movement of our school population and the added complexity of its curriculum have made it difficult to apply theory to practice.This paper will attempt to aid social studies teachers in the realization that many problems in their classrooms result from lack of information about the children they teach. Adjustments to situations in the class seem difficult to many learners because of the apparent inability to reconcile their purposes with those of the school, their parents, and community.
