Critical Tests of Chlorinated Alkyl Hydrocarbons as Anthelmintics for Worm Parasites, especially Hookworms, of the Dog
During recent years, anthelmintics of the chlorinated hydrocarbon series have received widespread application in the treatment of hookworm disease and other parasitic conditions in man and animals. The anthelmintic properties of only a few compounds of this series have been tested, and no extensive study has been made of the action of the chlorinated hydrocarbons as a whole in an effort to correlate the chemical composition and physical properties with the anthelmintic efficacy. The present investigations were undertaken with a view of determining whether any correlations exist between anthelmintic properties and chemical composition of chlorinated alkyl hydrocarbons, and also to discover, if possible, compounds other than those now in use, which might give promise as anthelmintics.
