Control, alt, delete: African Americans escaping the Digital Divide

The Digital Divide tends to be a hegemonic assertion of Internet technology having crucial importance for social, political, and economic engagement in our everyday lives. This thesis will take a look at how disadvantaged individuals, in particular African Americans, attempt to "escape" the Digital Divide by gaining technological capital acquiring some forms of cultural capital. The Internet is often touted as a cure-all for social ills, but what truly happens once someone gains access and thus crosses the divide?
