This argument focuses on the work of two American writers from different time periods who expose the problems race presents when one questions its value and existence. These questions, posed by Nella Larsen in Passing, and John Edgar Wideman in Sent For You Yesterday, produce clear answers to the problems of race, that its value is steeped in too many problematic scenarios, making its existence irrelevant to our society. Therefore, in light of examining these two works, I will argue that the questions they pose and the assertions they make point to the necessary eradication of race as a form of social categorization and identification.
