Chelsea Road is an original novel that tells the story of four families living on one block in bong Island. Told from the different perspectives of each family, the story takes place over the span of six months in late 1990. After tragedy strikes---the death of a child on the block---the families are thrust into upheaval: what responsibilities do they have for one another? The neighbors attempt to move forward by planning the events that have brought them together in the past: block parties, church functions, school fundraisers, Thanksgiving dinners. While their grief is communal, their loss is individual, and this is why these events fail to unify Chelsea Road. As new chapters reveal the particularity of loss as it pertains to the individuals in each family, it becomes clear that in order for the residents of Chelsea Road to cope with their shared loss, everyone must first attempt to do something far more difficult: deal with their own.
