Certain Aspects of Communication Affecting the Development of Public Relations
The development of public relations cannot be traced solely in relation to outstanding persons such as Edward L. Bernays, Carl Byoir, Amos Kendall or Ivy Lee. Such individuals have markedly affected the development of public relations, yet they did so in relation to events of their times which also added to overall development of the field. In examining certain aspects of communication affecting the development of public relations there are many inter-related factors contributing significantly to the status of modern public relations. Among such factors are the expansion of communication media, the influence of outstanding personalities, the changing concept of the social responsibilities of business and many others. Hence, this paper reflects certain facets having considerable effect upon the maturation of public relations with emphasis upon journalism and communication media.
