Care ethics and human rights: Frameworks for negotiating identity, migration and conflict

This research project explores the relationships between, identity, migration, and conflict through the lenses of two different frameworks; human rights and feminist care ethics. The analysis of these relationships and of individual agency in the recreation of identity is guided by questions such as: How have individuals impacted by conflict-induced migration recreated identity and what effect does this have on the reconciliation process? Is the human rights model or the feminist care ethics model better poised to analyze the impact of conflict-induced migration on individual and community identity for Chechens? Through an exploration of how migration affects individual identity and potentially reconciliation, we may be able to reveal some indicators for positive social change in the Caucasus region and elsewhere.
