Cardinal versus Ordinal Utility Concept and the Development of the Indifference-Curve Analysis

The present study attempts to investigate the development of the marginal utility theory and its modern version, the ordinal utility concept, which uses indifference-curve analysis.The present study will also review the controversy between cardinal and ordinal utility schools over the question as to whether utility permits only the ranking of preferences or could it be assumed to bear cardinal magnitude.
