Body Memory is a full-length collection of original poetry written in the voices of various speakers. Reflecting the poet's work as a human rights activist and as a domestic violence and sexual assault counselor, these poems record the pain and pleasure, struggle and triumph of the self as it moves from a state of disembodiment toward healing. By bearing witness to the violence, oppression, consumerism, and environmental decay in our society, these poems remind us how human activities threaten to alienate us even from ourselves. A tribute to the intelligence of the flesh, Body Memory invites readers to "find meaning/ in the memory of bodies" and to celebrate their own "river-mouth/where straight line turns/circles and swirls."
