Blues, Come Down
Blues, Come Down is a novel set in Washington, D.C. from 1947 to 1971. The novel begins with the coming birth of Maye Lewis's second child. It will be a child born out of adultery---a shame to her family, especially her husband, the minister. She must give up her right to raise her second child. Her choice weighs heavily on her son, who later starts a family of his own with youthful hopes of change and new beginnings. But then his father dies, he is thrown back into the confusion he struggled to overcome as a child. Meanwhile, Maye's second child, a daughter, readies herself for the birth of her own baby. They all seek sanity in a world that grants little of such illusions, and in their journeys, find themselves yearning for life, and claiming a craziness that bonds them together---whether they desire that bond or not.
