This Black Book contains poems about endangered species of the human environment and of the human inner world. It contains dogs, dreams, kangaroos, memories, herring gulls, thoughts, cities, and prayers: things doomed to perish. But it contains human belief in eternal life, too. Most of the poems in this collection are clear visual images. Few of them rely on the musical quality of words. Some were originally written in Bulgarian, and then translated. The poems in the first part of the book show simple parallels to real living things. Most of the poems in the second part contain dream-like intersections of visual images and thoughts. The epilogue is an essay about poetry and its relation to religion.
