This thesis explores unusual art spaces in the twenty-first century and examines why they are important to artists and audiences. Art spaces in the United States have evolved over the last 200 years; temples, palaces, and grand venues for arts consumption are the established norm. However, there is work being presented outside of these traditional spaces. These unusual art spaces help meet creative and logistical needs of artists and offer contemporary audiences unique, engaging experiences that are both innovative and important to examinations of art attendance.
