Babies from the Fire is a collection of short stories interwoven by their common location in the Charlotte, NC area and by the reoccurring character. The stories are marked by movement not to far away places but to and through characters from various walks of life. Ultimately the landscape of the main character's life from her time in foster care, her adoption by a white family, and her attempts to meet her mother are revealed in the telling of several people's stories. At the same time, her story provides both an umbrella and an undercurrent to the many voices in this collection and their desire to reckon with the fires that drive their own lives.
