It would seem somewhat strange that of the few valuable contributions to contemporary philosophy the two under consideration, neo-Thomism and Existentialism, have as the key to their thought a single principle-the category of existence» Gilson, as the leader along with Maritain, of the 'new look' for Thomism and Marcel as one of the brighter personalities in a philosophic growth that is often over used and misunderstood, have as Catholic layman, provided the contemporary world with positive metaphysics that not only take into account the very heart of man's existence but leave him the structure on which to build wisdom.
