It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine the market area for broilers produced in the peninsula area east of the Chesapeake Bay, the volume shipped, the type of pack used, the size of bird marketed, channels of distribution and marketing costs; (2) to ascertain consumer demand for chicken and its relation to the demand for other meats and to determine size and frequency of purchase as influenced by income, size of family, race and religion; and (3) to obtain data on consumer preferences for various kinds of meat served on holidays and special occasions, as well as who does the grocery buying, and where and when meats are purchases.
