An Objective Test of Hearing, Employing the Conditioned Eyelid Response to Auditory Stimuli

All measurement of human behavior which is dependent on a subjective response is confounded by a peculiar paradox. Though every aspect of a stimulus may lend itself to the most precise measurement, and may be under the most perfect control, once this known stimulus enters the vast unknown of the human psyche, and that self must consciously perceive the stimulus, and must communicate his awareness of it, then all knowledge of the stimulus may be lost in the waste of reliability of the response.
