The statistical findings in evaluative and follow-up studies of the outcome of psychotherapy fall into rather consistent patterns of success and failure, for which, however, no consistent causes have as yet been established. Broadly speaking, it has been found that approximately one-third of the cases for which psychotherapeutic treatment has been initiated show no improvement and two-thirds range in results from some to much improvement.
