Investigations into the personality structure of the hard-of-hearing adult as demonstrated by the literature are meager. Are there uniquenesses due to impaired hearing that differentiate the hard-of-hearing as a group? Furthermore, within the hard-of-hearing group does the type of hearing loss play a deciding role in the personality which is consequently developed? In general, one might expect behavior different from the ordinary from any person suffering a physical disability by the mere virtue of the fact that this person is operating on a different set of cues, or at least a limited ability to receive those cues persent.
