Since the beginning of the rapid development of television as a commercial medium, an idea has grown and spread that a very few, if any, Negroes were employed in television in administrative or technical jobs. This opinion has some basis, in the fact that studies of the employment picture in other new industries have revealed that this has been true. One of the factors that gave credence to the idea, the racial shibboleths of the old South, can no longer be blamed entirely for this situation.
