An Analysis of the Thesis Painting Entitled "Family Group"

I selected figure composition as a thesis project primarily because I feel that the modern artist has turned increasingly away from the object in nature and especially from a consideration of the human being and his function in today's world. With the increasing importance of regimentation and the decreased role of the individual, the artist has tended to ignore the depiction of the figure, or, if attempted, has usually reduced it to complete abstraction.
