American Dharma is an original novel that centers around an American family living in present-day southern India. Evelyn is the fourteen-year-old daughter of Donna and Peter. As each character's point of view is represented in various chapters throughout the book, it becomes apparent that they are struggling with their lives and surroundings in different ways. Still, each chapter shares a motif of storytelling that stretches from ancient Greek and Hindu mythology to modern-day cinema. And each character shares a common pursuit of love on both an individual and a philosophical level. Evelyn, Peter, and Donna also explore various interpretations of death and what it means to fit their true selves into the world around them.
