The purpose of this study is to discuss the relations of the United States with Iraq and the development of cooperation between them during a definite historical period. The period to be covered is from the first World War to the present time. An attempt will be made to include the highlights in American-Iraqi relations especially during the second World War and its aftermath. This study will present pertinent aspects of the Arab awakening and the beginning of the significant trends in political and economic alignments. The present writer will try to give as complete a picture as possible, but this cannot be done except in a tentative manner since political, social and economic developments in Iraq are still in a transitional state.
