A survey of the New Deal press relations
With the advent of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal in March, 1933, an almost new phase of government influence on the press came into being - a phase which had not been widely practiced before during times of peace. That was the positive influencing of the press by the Federal government through the establishment of numerous press bureaus whose principal function was to disseminate news of governmental affairs. This phase of today's news has never been discussed adequately. This study aims to present a picture of the facilities, functions and special techniques of Federal government press relations as carried on by the administration from Washington during the New Deal, and in addition it attempts to appraise the press agency system.
