A study of public relations in U.S. community symphony orchestras
This investigation seeks to learn whether Community Orchestras have articulated public relations programs. By articulated public relations programs are mean those which assign PR responsibility, utilize research, identify specific publics, select and vary the use of media, and rely upon stated policies and objectives. Data was secured through a series of interviews with Community Orchestra managers attending the American Symphony Orchestra League Convention in Chicago, June 20-23, 1962, and through a search of the literature. The completed study provides an instrument with which Community Orchestra managers can measure their own PR effectiveness. It should also make interesting reading for members of Community Orchestra boards and women's associations. Hopefully this investigation will not go unnoticed by the American Symphony Orchestra League. And finally, it offers recommendations to call those interested in serious music.
