A study of Western influence on the educational system of Thailand

This thesis presents an overall view of the development of the modern educational system of Thailand, and traces the influence of Western ideas and ideals, modes and manners, upon the development of this system. The term "education" or "learning" as it is used herein, is meant to include not only the opening of formal schools to teach reading and writing, and the formulation of curriculums, the selection of textbooks and similar procedures. It is intended to embrace the whole educative process, i.e., all experiences based on Western philosophy and concepts which resulted in altering the behavior pattern of the people of Thailand, and in transforming this ancient Asiatic country into a modernized and progressive nation.
