This paper will attempt to answer the following questions: From an analysis of mass communication media, what inferences can be made as to the extent of American public opinion of Finland during the period 1919-1939? What inferences can be made about communicator intent and audience effect as related to the communication content? Can any assumptions be made as to the quality of American public opinion prior to 1939, when manifestly positive opinion arose with seeming spontaneity? What significant trends, if any, can be ascertained?
