Local 4-H Club leaders play an important part in the conduct of the 4-H Club program. One means of increasing the educational values of the program to rural boys and girls who are 4-H members is to improve the work done by these leaders. They perform many different jobs; the methods and criteria used in selecting them very greatly; and many of them are not trained in the techniques of 4-H leadership. Since 4-H leadership is voluntary, satisfactions obtained from their work are other than monetary. In this study, an attempt is made to determine what jobs leaders should perform; to arrive at criteria for selection of leaders; to determine methods for training them; and to learn what satisfactions to emphasize in maintaining morale.
