A Soloist is an original novella. Set in New York City one year after the events of 9/11, the book concerns the aftermath of a love affair between a young man who is new to the city and an older, married woman with children. The book examines responses to loss, the search for intimacy and safety, and the frailty of human commitment. Drawing on modernist narrative techniques, the book explores the connections between memory and emotion, and also pays homage to the European and American bildungsroman tradition.Chairs: Richard McCann; E. J. Levy.
