Concepts of education in the modern school have changed since the 1920's as a result of the challenges of advances made scientifically, economically, and socially. Because the schools function under a progressive philosophy, traditional methods are unsuited. One practice which has changed necessarily, is that of appraising pupil progress and reporting to parents. Conferencing and writing reports in narrative form, are proving popular in many instances. There are other ways to perform the reporting activity, but it would seem that at this point in the educative thinking, these are the most successful.
