The terms "mentally retarded" or "mentally handicapped" are applied to those who measure approximately 50-75 I.Q., the lowest 2 percent of the school population in learning ability. Mentally handicapped children differ in the following ways from the mentally deficient or the feeble minded in the following manner.The mentally handicapped child is one who has some degree of educability in the social area. Class training should be so geared as to assist the child in ultimately managing his own affairs.
