AIDS health locus of control (AMHLOC) and condom use self-efficacy (CUSES) were examined as predictors of condom use in 100 heterosexual college students. Results indicated that AMHLOC did not predict condom use. Greater probability of condom use was associated with higher CUSES scores, being younger at the time of completing the survey, being older at first intercourse, and having a shorter relationship with one's current sexual partner. However, in a subset of 75 subjects for whom data were available regarding primary use of condoms to prevent pregnancy (as opposed to disease), CUSES was no longer a significant predictor, and primary use of condoms to prevent pregnancy was significant. Implications of the results are discussed.
