The purpose of the Adoption Data Research Briefs is to make national and state level AFCARS data available to citizens and researchers interested in adoption, especially adoption of children with special needs. The reports were originally published online in 2006 by the North American Council on Adoptable Children (www.nacac.org). Data cover 1996-2003. Relevant historical background is included.
This brief describes data on whether adoptive families received subsidies to help them afford the adoption and ongoing care of the adopted child. It also describes state claims for federal reimbursement of the subsidies under Title IV-E of the Adoption and Child Welfare Act of 1980.
