Race and Transracial Adoption

The purpose of the Adoption Data Research Briefs is to make national and state level AFCARS data available to citizens and researchers interested in adoption, especially adoption of children with special needs. The reports were originally published online in 2006 by the North American Council on Adoptable Children (www.nacac.org). Data cover 1996-2003. Relevant historical background is included.

This brief describes data on the race of children adopted from foster care, including children whose adoptive parents identify as a different race than their adopted child.
