Homecoming
This documentary explores the concept of home, while also covering aspects of a country most people know little about: The Philippines. Some would define home as a place, while other would define it by the people they love. From moving to a different state for school to moving halfway around the world for my mother's work, I've learned that homes - be they people or places - were essentially stepping stones between life stages. But one home, in particular stands out because it was my very first, the Philippines. After living most of my life in the United States, I journey to my first home to learn about my heritage and to explore my native land. I begin my journey oceanside with fishing boats skimming between islands of One Hundred Islands National Park and work my way inland toward my hometown of San Jacinto. In doing so, I show aspects of the country that are particularly different from what I was exposed to in the U.S.: the kind of natural beauty, the food, its people, etc. I hope to be the eyes for anyone who has never benn to the Philippines. Additionally, I introduce a personal element by exploring my heritage through this journey. I do this by focusing on my family, who make the Philippines home for me.
